Statement of Welcome and Ethos of Care
A Tapestry of Kinship and Sacred Bonds
We welcome individuals, couples, families, and every constellation of kinship. Regardless of gender, sexuality, relational orientation, culture, race, or family configuration, each person and every bond is honored here as sacred and unrepeatable. Rooted in the intertwining streams of Celtic Christian devotion and the wisdom of anam cara, or soul friendship, we regard each life and relationship as a living icon of the divine image (Genesis 1:27; Galatians 3:28). Just as enduring myths speak of a great Tree of Life connecting all realms (Revelation 22:2), and modern ecology reveals the deep mycelial networks sustaining the forest floor, we recognize that we are all intertwined branches of the same sacred vine (John 15:5). The Light that enlightens everyone (John 1:9) shines uniquely through every body, story, desire, and way of loving that crosses this threshold.
A Hearth of Absolute Hospitality
Drawing inspiration from the warmth of Brigid’s hearth, a beloved figure who beautifully bridges a deep reverence for the natural world and Celtic Christian faith, we seek to create a space where all are received as honored guests. We follow the sacred tradition to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing so some have entertained angels without knowing it (Hebrews 13:2). Echoing the poetic wisdom of the mystics who saw the human being as a guest house welcoming every sorrow and joy, and guided by the inclusive vision found in the early gospels, the Divine is revealed here as Light in all things and in every land. This mirrors the open table of the universal Christ where there are no outsiders and no one is turned away.
This welcome is absolute. It extends across the full spectrum of sexuality and gender, embracing queer, trans, nonbinary, and straight individuals. It honors all forms of family and relational bonds, whether monogamous, polyamorous, aromantic, asexual, queer platonic, blended, chosen, or biologically related. It celebrates mixed faith and mixed culture households, as well as bodies and minds that navigate the world through disability, chronic illness, and neurodivergence. No one is asked to leave their identity at the door. You are received exactly as you are, a bearer of divine presence and Holy Wisdom, the sacred Sophia who delights in the human race (Proverbs 8:31).
Communion with the Living Earth
The earth herself is held as part of our community. Inspired by a deeply rooted kinship with all creation and a profound recognition of the interconnectedness of the universe, your home, your ancestors, and your more than human kin are included in the sacred field where your life and relationships unfold. We read the Book of Nature as a sacred text, trusting that the invisible qualities of the Creator are clearly seen in what has been made (Romans 1:20). We honor the sacred web of life, trusting that the breath of the Creator flows through every part of the natural world, a truth echoed both by the spiritual elders who saw the Divine holding all things together (Colossians 1:17) and by postmodern science revealing the fundamental entanglement of the cosmos.
Spiritual paths are equally honored here. Whether your roots are deeply planted in a particular faith, interspiritual, agnostic, atheist, spiritually wounded, actively deconstructing, or simply uncertain, you belong. Questioning is never discouraged. It is embraced as a vital part of the sacred journey. In the spirit of the early mystics, we trust that the Kingdom of God is already woven into our ordinary lives, even when we have been taught not to see it.
A Practice of Deep Listening and Care
Whether companioning one person, a couple, a household, or an extended family system, we listen alongside you for how the Divine is moving in your unique story. Like Elijah listening for the still small voice in the wilderness (1 Kings 19:12), and echoing the modern depth psychological understanding that the soul speaks in whispers and symbols, we listen for truth beneath the noise. Together, we honor grief and joy, rupture and repair, thresholds, endings, and new beginnings. We navigate the “thin places” of Celtic lore where the veil between heaven and earth is lifted, trusting the Holy One, who appears at wells, at tables, on dusty roads, and behind locked doors (John 4; Luke 24; John 20), to be just as deeply present in the daily rhythms of laundry, caregiving, conflict, covenant, and care.
The Nature of Pastoral and Spiritual Care
Pastoral and spiritual care is a journey of companioning. It offers a sacred, dedicated space for deep listening, vocational discernment, and exploring the meaning of your life and relationships. Drawing from the refreshing wells of the Celtic Christian tradition and an expansive trust in the interconnectedness of all things, we look to the archetype of the Wounded Healer, drawing strength from the One who restores our souls and leads us beside still waters (Psalm 23). We look together for the movement of the Divine in your story, honoring the spiritual dimensions of your joy, sorrow, and growth, and trusting the medieval mystic Julian of Norwich who promised that despite the deepest fractures, all shall be well.
While this work is deeply healing, it is important to clarify that it is distinctly spiritual and pastoral in nature. It is not clinical psychotherapy, psychological counseling, or medical treatment. We do not diagnose mental health conditions, nor is this practice a substitute for professional psychiatric care. Pastoral care focuses on spiritual meaning, soul recovery, and grace rather than clinical intervention. When clinical support is needed, we gladly encourage working alongside licensed therapists and medical professionals to ensure you are receiving comprehensive, whole person care.
Sacred Reciprocity and the Economics of Ministry
This practice is born of a calling and a sacred trust. It is a ministry of the heart rather than a conventional business. In a world that often reduces healing to a transaction, our work seeks to embrace those who have been marginalized, overlooked, or left behind by standard medical systems and institutional religion.
To sustain this work, we operate on a model of sacred reciprocity. The financial contributions we receive are not merely payments for services rendered. They are the vital sustenance that allows this ministry to breathe, to keep the hearth fires burning, and to remain present for those in deep need. Sacred tradition reminds us, as the Apostle Paul affirmed, that those who sow spiritual seed are meant to share in a material harvest to sustain their calling and ongoing care (1 Corinthians 9:11). The scriptures echo that the laborer is worthy of their keep (1 Timothy 5:18), and just as the earth requires both the falling rain and the rising mist to flourish, our shared life requires an ongoing circle of giving and receiving. This beautiful exchange mirrors the indigenous wisdom of the gift economy, where sustenance flows naturally to where it is needed most.
From the earliest days, sacred traditions have commanded that we leave the edges of our harvest untouched so that the vulnerable may gather what they need (Leviticus 19:9). In this same spirit of gleaning, a dedicated portion of every contribution is explicitly set aside to support those who are navigating financial hardship. Because this is a ministry, no one is ever turned away for an inability to contribute financially. Your mutual support ensures that the doors of this sanctuary remain open to all, allowing grace to flow freely where it is needed most.
Compassionate Boundaries and Referrals
Just as Christ frequently withdrew into the wilderness to pray and replenish his spirit (Luke 5:16), we recognize the sacred necessity of limits. We know that every person and relationship carries complex histories and deep needs. In the spirit of honest love, wise stewardship, and the wisdom that there is a season for every purpose under heaven (Ecclesiastes 3:1), if at any point we discern that we are not the right fit to fully support your situation, we will communicate this gently and transparently. Whether due to safety concerns, therapeutic needs beyond our pastoral scope, legal or ethical considerations, or simply a mismatch of fit, our commitment is to your highest good. With as much care as possible, we will help guide you toward other resources, elders, clergy, or clinical professionals, ensuring that your journey continues to be held with the skill, depth, and tenderness it deserves.
